Third Secret of Fatima Revealed

On May 13, 2000 the Beatification of Jacinta and Francisco Marto took place in Fatima. During the ceremonies a spokesman for the Holy Father, John Paul II, declared that the third part of the secret of Fatima is to be revealed to the faithful, by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, after an appropriate commentary is made.

The apparitions of three children from Fatima, Portugal took place in 1917. The final apparition (to all three children) took place on Oct. 13, 1917, in which a crowd of thousands witnessed the promise miracle, which has affectionately become known as, "The Miracle of the Sun." Predictions given to the children of Fatima such as the prophecy of Russia, came true. As prophesied by the vision of Our Lady of Fatima, Jacinta and Francisco were soon to die. This came true within a few short years. The Lady told the third Fatima child, Lucia dos Santos that she was to remain on earth some time longer as the Lady still had work for Lucia to do.

The loss of her two cousins, Jacinta and Francisco, was devastating to Lucia but she went on to become Sister Mary Lucia of the Immaculate Heart, in the Carmelite order. Through the insistence of the Bishop of Leiria, Dom Jose Corria da Silva, a sealed letter containing the secret was sent to the Bishop with instruction that it should not be opened before 1960.

Pope John XXIII was the first to view the letter along with a few close aides. The letter was returned to the Vatican Archives and it contents have remained a secret, known only to a few.

Sister Lucia, died February 13, 2005, she was 97 years old.
