Our Lady of Dolours/Our Lady of Sorrows
By Petronia Laine

The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is given to us as September 15th. And, Pope Benedict XV granted 100 days indulgence on September 28, 1915 for this invocation. Then one year later the indulgence was increased to 300 days.

It is said that Jesus Christ revealed to Blessed Veronica da Binasco that He was more pleased in seeing compassion given to His Mother than Himself. Jesus Christ's words were, "My daughter, tears shed for My Passion are dear to Me; but as I love My Mother Mary with an immense love, the meditation of the torments which she endured at My death is even more agreeable to Me."

And, as was revealed to St. Elizabeth, it is written that St. John the Evangelist desired to see his Mother again after her assumption into heaven. The favor was granted to him; and with his Mother appeared Jesus Christ. St. Elizabeth then heard Mary ask her Son to grant special grace to all those who are devoted to her dolours. Jesus promised her four principal graces. Among these four graces, there are seven graces as given to St. Bridget in this devotion. God grants these Seven Promises to those who honor The Blessed Virgin Mother daily by saying seven Hail Mary's while contemplating her tears and sorrows during her life.

SEVEN PROMISES

1. I will grant Peace to their families.

2. They will be enlightened about the Divine Mysteries.

3. I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work.

4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my Divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.

5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.

6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death, they will see the face of their mother.

7. I have obtained (this grace) from my Divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.

Through You, Oh Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns world without end. Amen.
