It's Confirmed, Medjugorje Is Under Investigation Of The Vatican
Asked if the current Medjugorje Commission is in the hands of the local Bishop of Mostar, the Bosnia Conference of Bishops or the Vatican, the Vicar General of Sarajevo Archdiocese recently confirmed the current ongoing investigation of Medjugorje (since September of 06) is directly in the hands of the Vatican. Local Church authorities will have no say either accepting or rejecting any aspect of the apparitions as in the First Commission done by the former local Bishop of Mostar, Pavo Zanic)
The first Medjugorje Commission by Zanic for some reason was not accepted and a second Commission was formed but civil unrest in the region lead to all out war which gained Bosnia's independence from Yugoslavia. As there were no official agreements between the newly formed Bosnia State and the Vatican, the second Medjugorje Commission was dismantled without finding. The public at large was not aware why the negative first Medjugorje Commission was not accepted, until the publication of author Michael K. Jones' book, "Medjugorje Investigated."
Based on U.S. State Department documents, Mr. Jones presented official documents as proof the first Medjugorje Commission was tainted with unbelievers from the very foundation of the investigation. In his book Jones attempts to convince the Vatican that a third investigation is necessary even though at the dismantling of the second Commission, the Church said they would not investigate Medjugorje again till the apparitions had ended. However, just a few weeks after "Medjugorje Investigated" was on the shelves in Medjugorje exposing the tainted first Commission, the Vatican announced the formation of a new and third Commission.
Upon it own investigation in 06, Medjugorje USA wrote an article explaining why we believe the new Medjugorje Investigation was being conducted by the Vatican and not local Bosnian Church officials. This recent confirmation by the Vicar General of Sarajevo Archdiocese is confirmation to the article posted on Medjugorje USA in 06.
It is also worth nothing that the current Bishop of Mostar (Ratko Peric) who jurisdiction includes Medjugorje, has openly stated over and over again through the media, the pulpit of St. James in Medjugorje and the writing of a book that Medjugorje is a false apparition. He does not believe in it, just like his previous friend Bishop Zanic. These long time friends have created huge amount of negative media surround Medjugorje, leaving many with disbelief. Truth of the matter is, Medjugorje itself is caught in a political upheaval. What we the lay people need consider is the great turmoil in the Church which is causing grave division. The long and short of this division can be summarized in two words Traditionalism and Modernism.
In the past months, Bishop Peric has forced Community Cenacolo to stop visionary Mirjana from having her apparition on the grounds of the community. Also the Community Cenacolo website has closed down perhaps as a result. Another community called "Oasis of Peace" located in Medjugorje has been prohibited from having any more Masses or Adorations, again per order of the local bishop of Mostar, Ratko Peric. We have learned Bishop Peric has also forbid further confessions in Oasis of Peace and also will no longer allow Medjugorje Visionary Marija Povlovic to have her apparitions in the Community. Confession is good anywhere a priest can offer it and to say it can not be said here nor there could be a direct result of the loss of a salvation of a soul. The Bishop has no true right to determine where a confession can be heard or not. Confession is good anywhere as is prayer.
Church guidelines during an investigation of apparitions calls for silence. When current Pope Benedict was the head of the "Doctrine of Faith" he sent a letter to Bishop Zanic telling him (in my own words) to shut his mouth during the investigation. Even so, Zanic refused to obey his superior and remained an outspoken critic of the Medjugorje apparition even till his death. His long time friend who is now the current Bishop, continues to follow in the negative footsteps of Zanic. In the process of the current Bishop's hatred for the apparitions, he is using his authority to destroy Medjugorje and the apparition by means of destroying anything associated with the apparition that is under his jurisdiction. The saddest part of all in this is the division and separation that is destroying the Catholic Church.
