Picture: St. James, Medjugorje second week of February as snow starts to cover the ground.

In the second week of February 2012, Medjugorje was hit hard with rare snow storm leaving Medjugorje buried under some 3 foot of snow. Another storm was expected February 10/11 but luckily it turned out not to be much of anything as Medjugorje continues to uncover itself from this massive blanket of snow.

Because it is so unusual to see such record amounts of snowfall in the region, the concept of trucks and snow plows are not common places, as we would find here in the U.S. This leaves Medjugorje unable to provide even the simple basics. Our sources tells us that due to the crippling snow fall even the local baker was almost out of flower with no way to get more. Trying to help him, someone found a way to get to the big store where more flour could be bought and taken to the baker.

Shovelling and moving snow around has left icy road condition as the temperatures dipped down well below freezing. There were also reports of some scattered power outages.

The whole of Europe has had an overabundance of extreme unusual winter weather this year. In places like Russia where cold violent weather is common during winter, this years temperatures has dipped to minus 50 and below making this Russian winter one to be reckoned with.

On the other side of the coin, the larger part of the U.S. have experienced the exactly opposite in much of America. Many American's can not recall a warmer milder winter in their entire lifetime. By now the average American family during a normal East Coast winter has used about 500 gallons of home heating fuel. This winter as example in the Cape Cod region on the East Coast I have used only about 185 gallons as of the second week of February. I do not recall ever having used so little home heating fuel during a winter. About the only place that has had near record snowfall and bitter cold in the U.S. this year is Alaska.
