The Berlin Wall was a barrier
separating West Berlin from East Berlin. The fall of Communism
in Russia and the Berlin Wall took place during the Reagan
Administration. You may recall Ronald Regan's famous speech
saying "Mr. Gorbachev tear down that wall." The Berlin Wall did
come down and soon the doors of churches (longed closed) were
open again and tourists around the world came to Moscow. The
year the Berlin Wall came down, Ann Cody went with a group of
American tourists went to Russia. There she purchased this egg
from a artisan on a street corner in Moscow. This egg was
handcrafted by the artisan. Prior to the fall of the Berlin
Wall, religion was not allowed in Russia under penalty of
imprisonment. This beautiful hand crafted egg is a testament of
the power of religious faithful who never stopped praying or
believing even when it could cost them their life. This egg was
purchased in 1989. This is a rare historical piece from Russia
during the first few month of openness in Russia under the rule
of Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev. Apx. 4"L x 3 1/4"
